William Duncan Geddis was a clothing manufacturer who served as Lord Mayor for three consecutive terms from 1966 to 1968.

Born on 9 July 1896, Geddis was educated at Skerries College, Belfast. He served in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps from 1940-48, with the rank of Major.

Geddis first joined the Belfast Corporation in 1938. In 1968, Geddis undertook an ‘Ulster Week’ tour of the United States and Canada to promote trade with the province, travelling around 10,000 miles.

Geddis was knighted in 1969.

He was president of the Cavehill branch of the British Legion.
